The Bent Mountain Center’s Artisan Shop is proud to have prints from another of our home-grown artists, Genesis Chapman. A native of Bent Mountain, he received his BFA at the Art Institute of Kansas City in 2001 and his MFA from VCU in Painting and Printmaking in 2010. Oxford American Magazine named him one of the top 100 emerging Southern Artists in July 2010. His work has been shown at ADA Gallery (Richmond Va), 1708 Gallery (Richmond Va), the Eleanor D. Wilson Gallery at Hollins and in solo shows at the Taubman Museum of Fine Art (Roanoke) and at Second Street Gallery in Charlottesville. Chapman has participated in Richmond public art projects such as Art on Wheels "Paint Out Pollution", "Find Art Doors", and "GO Bikes!" Bike racks. He is also the official Artist in Residence and caretaker of the William Harrington Memorial Sculpture garden. Genesis, along with his wife, daughter and pack of dogs, splits his time between their cabin on Bent Mountain and Richmond.
