Mickey and Paula Bittinger, a local pair of farmer-artisans, have been breeding Leicester Longwool Sheep under the farm name Legacy Longwools for over ten years. A rare heritage sheep breed, Leicester Longwools are listed by the Livestock Conservancy as "Threatened" and are close to extinction. At Legacy Longwools, the Bittingers are committed to the preservation of these sheep through the careful breeding of animals that conform to the breed standard and by producing products that can be used and consumed by all.

The fleeces of Leicester Longwools are prized by hand spinners and fiber artists for their strength and long curly locks. The Bittingers ship high quality fleeces throughout the United States and Canada. A few select fleeces are preserved to produce high quality yarn and felted wool products. Paula, along with neighbor and Leicester Longwool owner, Daphne Damien, enjoys working with the wool to produce knitted and felted items, both natural and hand-dyed.
