Mickey and Paula Bittinger, a local pair of farmer-artisans, have been breeding Leicester Longwool Sheep under the farm name Legacy Longwools for over ten years. A rare heritage sheep breed, Leicester Longwools are listed by the Livestock Conservancy as "Threatened" and are close to extinction. At Legacy Longwools, the Bittingers are committed to the preservation of these sheep through the careful breeding of animals that conform to the breed standard and by producing products that can be used and consumed by all. Mickey, a cabinet maker and woodworker for over 30 years, enjoys finding wood for his projects on the farm and in the Bent Mountain area. On his antique lathe he hand turns these into unique bowls, ornaments, and pieces of furniture.
